We were Iked 9-14-08

Ike damage

As hurricane Ike moved northeast across the country we got crazy 84 MPH wind gusts that knocked the power out for almost a week.   A section of our wooden fence blew over, snapped a 4″ x 4″ wooden trellis post near the ground, blew over two smaller 20-25′ trees, and the taller trees lost so many big limbs that they damaged 3 additional smaller trees that will need to be taken down too. Not a fun clean up but we were so lucky to still have a house with no insurance claims that I am NOT complaining!

We don’t get that kind of wind in Ohio for that many hours straight and it was just getting started.  There was no way I was going to go out there to take picts with so much stuff falling or flying.

Ike damage
After a couple of days cleaning up the debris pile for the chipper shredder is now over my head (YES, that is a TALL pile so shut up everyone – ROTFLMAO) and it runs almost the full width of our front yard.

Thank goodness some of our best friends from Columbus came to our rescue and loaned us their generator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It is what saved our 2 salt water aquariums, gave us a refrigerator to use, and allowed Hoov Doggers to have a fan blowing 24/7 to keep him cool.  I own them so much for everything they have done for us over the years and a Thank You never seems like enough… but we’re sending out true heartfelt Thank You, Thank You, Thank Yous, a million times over, Auntie Sharon and Uncle Mike for being there when we needed to mooch off you once again.  Lesson learned… get a generator ASAP!!!

That thing ROCKED!  OMG, it was a quiet NINJA BEAST!  I felt like I needed to build it a shrine and pay homage.

Noogent says I was NOT sleeping, I was merely resting my eyes!  See, I’m awake.
