More puppy agility
More of Isabella’s puppy agility class
In this class the puppies learned to stay on a little cot while their owners walked 10-15 feet away. We had already practiced this in a different obedience class so Izzy was quite comfy “parking it” and waiting for daddy to return with chicken treats.
Next, they ran a little jump/tunnel set up. The goal was to stand at the end and send them away to a target (lid) placed on the blue pause table. They started with one jump then progressed backwards by adding in another and another obstacle until the dog was at the end and could run the full length. This was her first time to do that many different things in a row. She seemed to really like it and ran it both directions. Of course, she wanted to hang out with the teacher since she had her chicken reward treats in hand. heehee… she is a starved hound, ya know!
She moved on to learning to go through jumps and meeting up with daddy on the other side. The first time she ran it she was lured by putting the treat on the target lid first then rewarded again after jumping and then touching the lid. The second time she ran it there was no treat waiting in the lid but quickly learned that daddy was coming along and to wait for it. The third time she ran the jumps, daddy ran with her and got treated much faster on the other side of the jump. My stupid camera batteries were running out of juice so I didn’t get all her runs. Boo, hiss… bleep!
The last game they played was to see how far you could send your dog away from you to go and touch the target on a pause table. The distance got further and further away from the target to see which dogs would stop going to it. Isabella came in 3rd best. She would go to the table from 25-30 feet away before she decided she was done. She was just too tired by the end of class to run for anything but she had a steady, determined pace going… despite floor distractions she made it to the table. wooohoooo.
Baby steps for what we hope will be an exciting career of agility!
